A Dream Interior in DUMBO: Designing for a Growing Family

In the heart of Brooklyn’s picturesque DUMBO neighborhood, I had the privilege of working with a wonderful family who brought both inspiration and warmth to our design journey. With their first babies—a boy and a girl—on the way, they were eager to create a cozy, minimalistic space where their new life as a family of four could flourish.

From the very first call on October 11, 2024, it was clear that these clients had impeccable taste. They loved clean, uncluttered designs and prioritized functionality and comfort, but they also wanted the spaces to feel inviting and nurturing. Their vision included a serene primary bedroom, a charming nursery, and a multifunctional living and dining area—each reflecting their love for simplicity and elegance.

The Design Process

Every step of this project was a joy. The approval process for each room’s design went smoothly, as the family was decisive and trusting—a dream for any interior designer! Within a month, we completed detailed renderings, selected furniture and decor ready for quick delivery, and coordinated services like painting, wallpaper installation, and white-glove delivery. From the initial call to the final furniture order on November 15, 2024, everything flowed seamlessly.

The tight timeline was a challenge, but it also made the project even more rewarding. With their due date approaching quickly, my team and I worked efficiently to curate and deliver a cohesive, cozy home. It was crucial to ensure every piece was in stock, avoiding backorders while maintaining the family’s minimalist aesthetic, one that many modern interior designers aim to perfect.

What’s Next

As we approach the final installation, the excitement is palpable. In the coming weeks, my team will carefully install and arrange everything—hanging artwork and mirrors, mounting the TV, and accessorizing the space to perfection. The nursery will be a haven for their twins, the bedroom a tranquil retreat, and the living and dining areas a welcoming space for family moments.
